Workflow building blocks
Save a section of a workflow as a named building block, then insert it into any other workflow from the add node panel.
What's new
Until now, reusing a part of a workflow meant rebuilding it node by node in the next one. Now you can save a section once and drop it into any workflow, so a setup that already works doesn't have to be recreated.
Save a section as a building block
In the workflow editor, open a section's header menu and choose Save. The block is saved under the section's name. If you select several nodes instead, you're asked for a name, and the nodes are grouped into a section and saved. A block keeps the nodes and the connections between them. Connections to nodes outside the section can't be saved, and you see a warning with the number that were left out.
Insert a block
Open the add node panel and go to the Saved category. Search by name, then click a block or drag it onto the canvas. The nodes arrive as one group, connected as they were. They are independent copies: you can edit them freely, and changing the block later doesn't change workflows that already use it.
Preview, rename and delete
Use a block's menu in the panel to preview it read-only, rename it or delete it. Deleting a block removes it from the panel only. Workflows that already used it are not changed.
A few things to know
- Saving, renaming and deleting are limited to users with permission to create building blocks.
- A block keeps how its nodes are set up, such as prompts and instructions, but not anything that points to items in the workspace. Text input content is kept.
- You can't insert a block into a workflow while it is running.
- Publishing workflows across workspaces is limited to the same permissions as other subscription-level settings.
- We're adding many improvements to this in the near future, like saving individual nodes.
