Groups are containers now. Give a group a layout and alignment stops being a manual job.
What's new
Alignment was the most repeated task in every piece of feedback we had: nudge, measure, nudge again, per size. A group now has a layout: row or column, gap, padding and alignment. The format itself is the root parent, so a layout on the format keeps the whole composition in order.
Fit, Fixed, Fill and Relative
Every element in a group or on the format has a sizing rule per axis. Fit hugs the content, so a CTA grows with its label in every language. Fixed keeps a size. Fill takes whatever space is left. Relative keeps its share of the parent when the format changes. Groups nest, and changing a parent's rule warns you before it cascades to the children.
Use it for
CTA buttons that hug their label, price blocks where sale price and old price stay aligned whatever the digits, logo and tagline lockups, card layouts that stay even when copy changes.
A few things to know
• A layer inside a layout cannot be dragged freely; move it in the order or change the layout settings.
• Groups carry opacity and visibility for all their children.
